The OACP, through it’s Traffic Committee, continues to address many issues that impact road safety across the Province. One of the areas where much debate and discussion is taking place with government and traffic safety stakeholders is automated speed enforcement.
In light of indications that the Provincial Government plans to raise speed limits on 400 Series highways, the OACP is taking a strong stance on supporting automated speed enforcement programs (ASE) in Ontario. Our association fully supports automated speed enforcement, particularly in light of the recent legislation directing its’ use exclusively in community safety zones and school zones.
From red light cameras to photo radar, using technology to enforce traffic laws makes sense, it is effective in addressing speeders and other drivers who break traffic rules, and would significantly assist in controlling the costs and resources dedicated to road safety across Ontario.
