Cancellation of 2020 Ontario Police Memorial’s Ceremony of Remembrance

We are sad to advise members that the 2020 Ontario Police Memorial’s Ceremony of Remembrance scheduled for Sunday, May 3, 2020 has been cancelled due to the COVID-19 virus. The organizers are hopeful that they would be able to host this important Memorial to honour our fallen officers and their families at a later date. However, due to the directives coming from the Chief Medical Officer of Canada to avoid any large public gatherings, as well as. the recent declaration of a state of emergency by the Government of Ontario, the very difficult step to cancel this year’s Ceremony has been taken. This decision was made in consultation with member organizations, family members, and most importantly, survivors of those tragically lost in the line of duty.

The OACP has reached out to the Ministry of the Solicitor General to discuss any possible impact the COVID-19 crisis may have on this year’s Police Week set for May 10 to 17, 2020.
