This Week @ Queen’s Park – November 1, 2019
- Members of the Provincial Parliament (MPPS) returned to the legislature after a 5-month break. New legislative business included the introduction of Bill 132, Better for People, Smarter for Business Act, 2019 (omnibus “red tape cutting legislation which we will be reviewing).
- The Centre for Forensic Sciences (CFS) has made changes to the testing of items from crime scenes for DNA evidence. These changes came into effect on October 1, 2019. The changes are specific to their submission criteria for their High Volume Service (HVS) area. This area deals primarily with property crimes and include all break and enters and theft of motor vehicles. These changes will drastically affect how many property crimes will be solved within the province. Please contact Joe Couto at email@example.com for more information.
- The Supreme Court Canada has ruled in the matter of Rivers v. Waterloo Regional Police Service. This is an important legal case as it relates to employment law. The case can be accessed here: 2019 ONCA 267.
